Accessibility continues to gain ground within the automotive industry and ford wants to be an active part of that change. The company presented two new additions to its program Ford Adaptaan initiative focused on facilitating access to mobility for people with disabilities through vehicles specially prepared for different needs.

The protagonists of this expansion are the new Ford Capri adapted for driving and the Ford Tourneo Connect L2 PHEV Euro Taxitwo models that seek to offer more alternatives to both drivers and passengers with reduced mobility.

The presentation was made within the framework of the II CUSTOS OPEN AEEPIMa national wheelchair tennis tournament held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
During the event, Carlos Esteire, president of the Chair Tennis Foundation (AEEPIM), stated: “Sport and mobility are two fundamental tools for the social inclusion of people with disabilities. Tournaments like this show that, when physical barriers are eliminated, performance and improvement are infinite. Having the support of Ford Adapta helps us make visible that an accessible society is possible and that technology must always be at the service of people.”
A Ford Capri adapted for barrier-free driving
The new Capri incorporates technological solutions designed so that people with disabilities can drive more comfortably and independently.
Available options include a steering wheel-mounted electronic throttle along with an ergonomic manual brake lever. It can also be equipped with a wireless trigger throttle that works in conjunction with the same manual braking system.
Paralympic tennis player and Ford Adapta ambassador, Cisco García, highlighted the importance of this type of development. “For people with disabilities, having the possibility of driving an adapted car is not a whim, it is our true independence. Seeing that Ford applies its most cutting-edge and electric technology, like that of the new Capri, so that we can drive without limits is a giant step. Initiatives like Ford Adapta allow us to focus on what really matters: enjoying the road and our passions, like tennis.”
A new proposal for accessible transportation
The second novelty is the Ford Tourneo Connect L2 PHEV Euro Taxi. This vehicle has been designed to provide accessible transportation services to individuals, associations and professionals in the sector.
To facilitate access, it incorporates a rear ramp, a retractable side step and a specific modification to the floor that simplifies the entry and exit of users with reduced mobility.
In addition, it can be configured with five seats plus space for a wheelchair or with seven conventional seats when this adaptation is not required.
A growing family of adapted vehicles
Thus, Ford Adapta continues to expand an offer that already includes specialized models for different uses.
Among them stand out the Ford E-Transit 350 L3oriented towards public transport and capable of transporting up to three people in wheelchairs, and the Ford Tourneo Customized PHEV Euro Taxia plug-in hybrid alternative that offers accessibility solutions without the need to modify the usual structure of the vehicle.
