A man accused of multiple murders in Oregon faces charges in the death of a fifth woman.
Jesse Lee Calhoun41, appeared before a judge in Portland on Wednesday, June 3, on the new charge of murder, according to media outlets such as KOIN and KPTV.
Calhoun showed no emotion during the hearing, and his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, the AP added.
On Tuesday, May 26, the Multnomah County Prosecutor’s Office stated in a statement that Calhoun had been charged with the murder of Ashley Right22 years old, allegedly occurred around March 27, 2023.
“Calhoun is charged with second-degree murder,” the statement stated. “Ashley Right is the fifth person whose murder Calhoun is charged with.”
In May 2024, Of Us magazine reported that Calhoun had been charged with murder for the death of Charity Lynn Perry24 years old, Bridget Leanne Webster31, and Joanna Speaks32, whose bodies were found dead under suspicious circumstances in 2023.
He was also accused of the death of Kristin Smithwhom he allegedly murdered around November 20, 2022, according to a statement from the Multnomah County Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition to five counts of second-degree murder, Calhoun also faces four counts of desecration of a corpse, the AP reported.
The bodies of the victims were found in early 2023according to the media.
The murders sparked speculation that a serial killer was targeting young women in the area at the time.
While the bodies of Right, Perry, Webster and Smith were found in northwestern Oregon, Speaks’ body was found near an abandoned barn in southwestern Washington state.
Calhoun remains in custody at the Multnomah County Detention Center, and a trial date has not yet been set.
