An extremely serious case is investigated in the city of Hampton, Virginia, after a woman died along with her three-year-old daughter in a fire inside a residential home.
According to preliminary information from the authorities and statements from relatives to local media, the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Monday, in a house where at least six people were present.
The mother would have doused herself with gasoline
The victim, identified as Future Wilson, 34, allegedly poured gasoline on his body before setting himself on fire inside the building.according to his mother, Tawana Wilson, to local media.
After starting the fire, family members tried to help her and put out the flames, but the fire spread quickly through the house.
In the midst of the emergency, the woman’s three-year-old daughter, Jamie Lee, was in another area of the home.
According to the acquainted testimony, The fire spread to the room where the minor was, preventing any rescue attempt.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency teams, while the mother was taken to a health center, where she later died due to severe burns.
A family marked by mental health problems
According to the family version, The woman was facing mental health problems and was going through a highly emotional situation related to caring for her daughter.who suffered from autism, cerebral palsy and other complex medical conditions.
The victim’s mother also noted that Future Wilson had been institutionalized in the past and had previously expressed suicidal thoughts.
Authorities confirmed that at least six people were inside the building when the fire started, including a 10-year-old minor who managed to survive.
Hampton firefighters reported that the fire was controlled around 7:21 in the morning, after a quick intervention by emergency teams.
Area residents described scenes of shock as they saw the arrival of multiple emergency units.
A neighbor indicated that he observed fire crews moving quickly toward the home, while the column of smoke rose from the affected structure.
While the investigation continues, relatives and friends have called for a vigil and release of balloons in memory of the mother and the minor, scheduled for Wednesday night.
In parallel, a fundraising campaign has been activated to cover funeral expenses and support surviving relatives after the devastating fire.
