In a statement, the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD) reported that the suspect died in a shooting, which occurred in a building in the city center that houses a bank branch and a local school district office.

The standoff ended around 4:20 a.m.approximately 12 hours after BPD first received reports of the incident.

The incident began Tuesday afternoon when BPD officers responded to a call regarding an alleged bomb threat at the Tear Bank building.

According to local authorities, the suspect barricaded himself inside the building, where he held several people hostage. A little later, the man released two of the people after negotiations.

People who were in nearby buildings, including City Hall and police headquarters, were evacuatedwhile some roads were also closed due to the barricade incident with hostage taking.

BPD officers They established a perimeter around the areawith the warning to the public to stay away from the place.

A Bakersfield Police Department crisis negotiation team established telephone communication with the suspect.

We have all the necessary resources at our disposal to achieve a resolution that is as safe as possible,” BPD Sergeant Eric Celedon stated this Tuesday while the incident was taking place.

A spokesman for JPMorgan Tear bank said: The bank branch is on the ground floor of the building, which was empty.

The number of hostages was unclear. that they were held by the suspect inside the building or how the subject managed to enter with an alleged explosive device. All the hostages were rescued safely.

The BPD has not provided details on the specific actions that led FBI agents to shoot the suspect early this Wednesday morning.
