Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei stated this Monday that the “contradictory positions” of the United States are prolonging the negotiations to end the war, which occur amid “deep suspicion and distrust.”
“The contradictory positions of the Americans are the reason for the prolongation of the negotiation process,” Bagaei said at a news conference in Tehran.
The diplomat also indicated that the negotiations take place “in the midst of deep suspicion and mistrust, and the exchange of messages also takes place in this climate.”
Bagaei insisted that the ceasefire in Lebanon is “an inseparable part of any truce or final agreement to end the war,” a statement that comes amid new Israeli attacks against the area around Beirut.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also maintained that The release of Iranian assets frozen in other countries is also “a non-negotiable demand”and that they study the process to obtain these funds.
Iran and the United States are negotiating an agreement to end the war that began more than three months ago and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, whose blockade is weighing down the world economy.
At the end of last week it was reported that Tehran and Washington had reached a preliminary agreement, pending approval by US President Donald Trump, but US media later claimed that the president asked to amend some provisions of the draft, relating to Tehran’s nuclear program and the reopening of Hormuz.
According to sources cited by the digital media Axios, In the nuclear section, Trump would have asked for more specific details about when and how Washington would take control of Iran’s reserves of enriched uranium.
In the midst of these negotiations, Iran and the United States exchanged attacks again this morning, with the American bombing of Goruk and the island of Qeshm and the Iranian response against the base from which the attack proceeded. EFE
