British actress Emily Blunt revealed that she is truly terrified of artificial intelligenceto the point of rejecting its use in one of the most complex sequences of his next film, “Disclosure Day” (“Day of Revelation” in Spanish), directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg.

In a recent interview on the legal program “Hot Ones,” Hosted by Sean Evans, Blunt confessed that technology makes him uneasy and preferred a completely organic approach for a key scene in the science fiction film.

About “Disclosure Day”

On Disclosure Day, Blunt plays a Kansas City TV meteorologist who, during a live broadcast, is possessed or overcome by a mysterious extraterrestrial force.

The culminating moment of that transformation is a four-minute scene (known in the industry as an “oner,” an uncut sequence shot) where his character begins to speak in a non-human language and gradually disintegrates.

“There are several ways to do it, the actress explained. You could go the AI route, which scares me a little.” Instead of delegating the alien sounds to an algorithm, Blunt decided to generate the disturbing vocalizations herself. “I thought I might make really strange sounds. I made clicking sounds, humming, consonant sounds, and strange breathing“.

Thanks to strategically placed microphones, the sound team captured every nuance. “The sound designer went out and created that weird sound,” the actress added.

A premiere scheduled for June

“Disclosure Day” will hit theaters on June 12. The film features a stellar cast that includes Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

The official synopsis poses a disturbing question: “If you found out that we were not alone, if someone showed it to you, proved it to you, would it scare you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people”.

The script is written by David Koepp, Spielberg’s long-time collaborator. This new project marks the 37th film directed by the filmmakerwho thus returns to his science fiction roots after works like “ET”, “Minority Anecdote” or “Ready Player One”.
