An oil company based in Houston, Texas, identified by the name Ikon Midstream, is investigated by Mexican authorities and the United States for alleged fuel smuggling, according to a report from the Reuters agency.

According to these reports, Ikon Midstream would be being investigated by the People’s Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Mexico for participating in a “huachicol” network linked to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and being its “supplier of oil products.”

The investigation indicates that the offices of this oil company were raided last month by US authorities (Hometown Safety Investigations) after being suspected of shipping oil products sent from the United States and Canada to Mexico by sea, with the purpose of evading taxes.

Besides, The Reuters investigation lists how Mexican cartels obtain billions of dollars a year through illicit activities with the trafficking of gasoline, diesel and naphtha coming from the United States to Mexico, and whose purpose is illicit enrichment and tax evasion.

In response to the allegations, the Ikon Midstream company sent a letter to Reuters denying any irregularity, stating that “it has never and does not knowingly provide field fabric support or resources to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel” and that “an investigative action by law enforcement does not constitute in itself a finding of irregularities.”
