Guillermo Ochoa is on the verge of being called up to the sixth World Cup of his career. “Memo” will be one of the few players who can boast this number of call-ups. However, Christian Martinoli considers that this is not enough to be the best goalkeeper in the history of Mexican soccer.
The sports analyst offered his highest 3 goalkeepers in the history of the Mexican team. Christian Martinoli located Guillermo Ochoa in third place on the all-time goalkeeper list.

“Ochoa, for his reflections and his careerdeserves to be among the three best Mexican goalkeepers of all time, but I wouldn’t consider him the absolute number onesince their shortcomings and some collective results must weigh in the analysis,” said the analyst in an interview for Récord.
Christian Martinoli put over Pablo Lariosa remembered goalkeeper from the 80s and 90s. Larios played in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The other one on the podium would be Jorge Campos. “Brody” was a stellar figure in the 1994 United States and 1998 France World Cups.
“Despite his merits, For me, first are Pablo Larios and Jorge Campos. Larios had spectacular starts and impressive reflexes; He made mistakes like any goalkeeper, but he was outstanding in dominating the area. Jorge Campos is also an obligatory reference,” he argued.
The “seams” of Guillermo Ochoa
Christian Martinoli considers that One of the deficiencies that Guillermo Ochoa could not correct in his career was his aerial game. The analyst highlighted the insecurity that “Memo” conveyed in this type of play. Despite this, Ochoa’s international career was successful.
“Ochoa never stood out for his aerial gamesomething that for me is a limitation. Many people value him especially for his time in Membership America and his character to go to teams of little renown in international leagues where he constantly fought for relegation. In Belgium he had his best moment. Maybe with better representation he could have played in higher level clubs”he explained.
Guillermo Ochoa debuted with the Mexican team in December 2005. Since then, “Memo” has been able to compete 152 games in the El Tri goal. Ochoa has defended Mexico’s goal in the last 11 matches in World Cups (Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022).
