The Southern California Edison company (SCE) announced a new round of payments to more than 1,200 residents who claimed damages as a result of the Eaton Fire through the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program.

SCE is accused of causing the Eaton firedue to an alleged failure in its facilities, on the afternoon of January 7, 2025 in the Altadena area, in Los Angeles.

“We remain focused on advance claims in the most efficient manner and considered possible, recognizing the importance of timely support for recovery,” Pizarro added.

Payments to more than 250 residents in one week

According to SCE, Payments were made to more than 250 residents last week alone who filed claims for damage they suffered to their properties as a result of the 2025 conflagration.

SCE reported that, As of May 21, 2026, it has received around 3,400 complaintsinvolving approximately 10,200 people, trusts and legal entities.

The electric service company mentioned that submitted more than 1,750 offers to some 4,300 claimantswhich adds up to a total of almost $600 million dollars.

SCE said that The round of payments for the more than 1,200 claimants represents a total of $175 million dollarsan amount that may increase with the cases that are still in process.

Program created for quick compensations

The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program was created by the SCE to offer compensation with similar settlement values ​​for claims in past wildfire lawsuits, with more simplified and faster processes than a lawsuit.

The initiative covers the claims from owners and tenants for the full or partial loss of homes or commercial premisesbusiness interruption, damage not directly caused by the fire (such as smoke, soot or ash), physical injuries and loss of life.

According to the company, Offers are delivered within 90 days upon the submission of a duly documented and substantially complete claim. He mentioned that more than 70% of the offers have been accepted and that there are more pending resolution.

When all the conditions stipulated in the settlement agreement are met, SCE said payments are made within 30 daysand that many offers and payments are processed in a fraction of that time.
