A passenger gave birth in the middle of a Caribbean Airways flight between Kingston, Jamaica, and New York City, which turned the routine trip into an extraordinary event.

The birth occurred Friday aboard Caribbean Airways flight BW005, which covered a route of approximately four hours, according to CBS News.

Coordination in the air

As the aircraft approached its destination, The pilots alerted air traffic control about the medical emergency.

“We have a pregnant passenger who is going into labor,” they reported from the cabin, according to audio records broadcast by US media.

Immediately, the presence of medical teams on the ground was coordinated to assist the mother and baby after landing.

After the pilots confirmed that the birth had occurred on board, one of the air traffic controllers made a comment that caught attention.

“Tell him he has to call it Kennedy,” he joked, referring to John F. Kennedy International Airport, where the plane was about to land.

Despite the unexpectedness of the situation, The airline reported that it was not necessary to declare an emergency during the flight.

The crew acted following established protocols, guaranteeing the safety of all passengers.

After landing, Both the mother and the newborn were treated by the deepest doctor and are in good condition.
